From Cameron Schaefer at The Art of Manliness - Are The Suburbs Killing Your Manhood?
The danger [of] living in the suburbs is simply that there is no danger…it’s completely safe. Constant and complete control is a silent, but deadly killer.

you know matt, I look forward to talking to you sometime about this. this seems to be a big theme for you. manliness. you seem to talk about it a lot, and I totally don't get it.
and not because I live in the suburbs or grew up in the suburbs. I think the suburbs might not have much to do with it. maybe it's because I hate sports (like, I really hate sports) and don't like to hunt and instead like to make music and drink wine and sit around and talk and look at art. who knows.
but I've just never felt like I resonate with these ideas about churches and manliness.

I just drove in to Birmingham today and I'll be here until August, so I'm available. We need to grab some time even if we don't talk about this.
The reason I do talk about it is because there seems to be a lot of confusion about masculinity - and coming out of that confusion are men living somewhere along a spectrum of femininity and barbarism. I think the church has perpetuated both ends of the spectrum which is why I do spend a good bit of time thinking and dialoguing about what it means to be a man.
