A sermon on Hebrews 7:4-10 by Pastor Matt Adair at Christ Church on January 29, 2006
As we seek to be a church that lives in radical commitment to serve each other and the world, we have the answer to both of these foundational questions: What’s wrong? You have a problem with God. How do you fix it? Jesus. We must remind each other and the world that while the problems between people are real and while we must concern ourselves with those problems, such problems pale in comparison to the problem that our God-wandering thoughts, affections, and actions have gotten us in. Once we realize what the problem is, the Bible from Genesis to Revelation presents one simple yet counter-cultural and counter-intuitive solution: Jesus. I know that doesn’t sound real smart or real sophisticated, and trust me, in about five minutes, you’ll have all the ‘smart and sophisticated’ you can dial up, but before we jump into the deep end of Hebrews 7, we need to be clear that the root problem in your life is with God and the only solution that will fix your problem is Jesus.
