Since we began our study in the book of Hebrews almost a year ago, the theme of treasuring Jesus in all of life has bubbled to the surface of who we are and must be as Christians, to the point where we have defined biblical Christianity as trusting and treasuring Jesus. While much of the emphasis in historic, orthodox churches in the past 200 years has been placed on belief and faith (trusting) due to the impact of the rationalism of the Enlightenment, there is also a treasure-trove of preaching and teaching on the indispensability of loving (treasuring) God in and through Jesus Christ.
This morning, I came across an exquisite jewel on the particulars of loving and treasuring Jesus by JC Ryle, a 19th century Anglican bishop, whose book Holiness (the source of this article/chapter) is a classic source of spiritual formation and transformation. In preparation for tomorrow's corporate worship gathering and for your personal worship today and in days ahead, I would highly encourage you to take the time to read this treatment on the necessity and particulars of loving God.
